Summer Camps 2014

Computing Skills, Coding and Creative Fun.

Join Sabine at cccSkerries for a week of computer-based discovery and fun! Each summer camp will be a mix of three parts: Computing skills: Finding your way around the keyboard, the computer, and the file structure. Searching for information and images safely online. Creating and saving files of different types. Coding: This is the central part! Creating animations and games with the free child-friendly yet powerful coding environment Scratch, developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Creative Fun: Writing and illustrating texts, creating fun presentations… let’s see what we’ll do!

Summer Camp FAQs

Do I need to have lots of experience? You can come whether you have lots of experience, or some, or none. What levels are the different camps? All summer camps are mixed-level. The programs we are using, such as Scratch, PowerPoint or Minecraft, allow participants with more or less experience to work at their own level and still have a lot of fun while creating amazing projects. The emphasis is on creativity and fun. Also, experience has shown that those who haven’t done much coding catch up very fast by learning from each other. What if I’m totally new to coding? You’ll get a lot out of this week! We’ll invite you to come 30 minutes early on the first day for a quick introduction to Scratch; after that, you’ll catch up quickly. Why cccSkerries? Because it’s fun and you’ll learn a lot! Look at out Testimonials page to see what parents whose children have attended summer camps and / or weekly classes had to say. Should I come in the morning or in the afternoon? If you’re going to be in 5th class or higher in September, then the mornings are for you. The afternoon camps are reserved for those who’re going into 2nd to 4th class. Except for the dedicated Minecraft Camp, which is in the afternoon and for everyone from 3rd Class up. Can I come to two camps? Yes of course – the content will always be different. I’m not sure. I have some questions… Then text Sabine on 086 0597348 or email her at – or connect with her on Facebook. Who knows, your question, and the answer, might even be added to this FAQ!
